PRP Injections: The Holy Grail for Hair Regrowth Gets a Makeover for 2019

Reflections: the Center for Cosmetic Medicine is well-known as one of the nation’s most prestigious cosmetics-only medical practice. With a team of cosmetic physicians focused on providing cutting-edge, science-backed treatments that create the very best results possible, hair restoration has become one of the treatments patients request most often from our team. What we’ve found is that hair transplant surgery, even FUE transplant, isn’t the golden solution most people have been sold.

Hair Transplants Solve the Problem As It Is Now, but the Results Won’t Last If You Don’t Solve the Underlying Cause of Hair Loss.

Hair loss is a complex problem, requiring complex solutions.

When hair loss is not complete, we tend to recommend patients aggressively pursue both options to increase hair diameter and the growth of new hairs, and to also address the underlying causes of that hair loss, to prevent its progression. What good is it to grow new hair if you continue to lose more of the old ones? If you effectively manage the underlying causes of the hair loss by encouraging the growth of new hairs, then you’ve got real, transformative results that are going to last.

When hair loss is complete or severe enough to create areas of less than 30% hair coverage remaining, transplant procedures are often sold as the perfect solution. What we now know is that transplanting hair into an area of scalp that is predisposed to killing off its hair follicles, will negatively affect those transplanted hairs, as well as what remains of the native follicles. If you, instead, transplant the hair and fight the hormones and imbalances that are causing hair loss, this not only protects the remaining and transplanted hair, but can positively affect the diameter, or thickness, of the individual hairs as well.

What Combination of Treatments is Ideal for Hair Restoration & Regrowth in the Long-Term?

As stated before, hair loss is a complex problem with many potential contributing factors that vary by the individual. These are some of the types of treatments we mix together for our patients:

Nutritional supplements that ensure the right nutrition is present to grow healthy hair
Hormonal modifiers to correct imbalances that lead to hair loss
Antifungal treatments (fungal infections and some diseases well-treated by the same products can cause temporary hair loss)
Regenerative aesthetics procedures, including Platelet-Rich Plasma(PRP) and Nanofat
Reparative cascade triggering with Lasers and Microneedling

Regardless of their starting point in the hair loss process, we find the best, most cost-effective, and enduring results happen for patients who are willing to be aggressive at the outset of treatment and to continue to maintain their results over the long-haul with supplements, medications, and occasional maintenance treatments.

Quality Matters: Not all PRP is Created Equal

As patients seek treatments for hair loss, we encourage them to discuss with their providers not just the adjuncts that will help support the PRP as it helps to stimulate new hair growth, but to also discuss the strength or concentration levels of the platelets. Some systems concentrate platelets at 2-3x the levels seen in normal blood, others at 8 or more times more concentrated.

Kihei Medical Spa RevitalizeMaui Offers Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatments

Kihei medical spa RevitalizeMaui on the island of Maui now offers platelet-rich plasma treatment for aesthetics, hair loss, facials, injections, and facelifts. Launched to overwhelming interest during a clinic demo, this type of therapy is quickly becoming their most popular service.

Here at RevitalizeMaui, I provide all medical and blood draw procedures so patients get the very best experience and highest quality care. They can expect great results. – Dr. Okwuje, MD

RevitalizeMaui Center For Longevity Medicine & Aesthetics is pleased to announce that it now offers PRP Injection Therapy. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair restoration are quickly becoming some of our most popular procedures we provide here at RevitalizeMaui.

PRP is a great option for our patients who want a more natural option to address their aesthetic needs. Essentially, treatments with PRP utilize the body’s natural ability to heal itself. When we are injured, our body tells platelets to go to the site of the injury and release various factors that initiate cartilage repair and promote the development of new blood cells.

When PRP is injected in specific areas for facial or hair rejuvenation, it works in the same way to provide results.

At an event in Mid-December, the clinic launched PRP treatment services with a demonstration that was attended by over 30 people who were able to observe a treatment, ask questions and learn how this treatment is used for aesthetics, hair loss, facials, injections and facelifts.

Platelet Rich Plasma For Aesthetics

Since this treatment uses the patient’s own plasma, there is no risk of allergy or donor infection during PRP aesthetics procedures. PRP can be used to stimulate the growth of collagen when injected into the skin. It can also help improve sun-damaged areas as well as other issues.

PRP For Hair Loss

There is a lot of evidence to support this therapy for hair loss. It has been gaining in popularity of the last few years as patients report an increase in hair count and thickness.

PRP Filler Injections

This is a newer option for plasma, as people are using PRP fillers instead of a traditional dermal filler. Treatment starts by drawing the patients blood which is put into a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood. The plasma is then injected into the same areas that traditional fillers were to replace lost volume.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Facials

A PRP facial has been popularized with the name “Vampire Facial”. Although this sounds frightening, itʻs not. This is a non-surgical facial rejuvenation therapy that is fairly straightforward.

All PRP treatments are done by a qualified, trained professional in a medical setting. Learn more about this treatment by visiting https://www.revitalizemaui.com/platelet-rich-plasma-prp/.

About RevitalizeMaui

The team lead by Dr. Okwuje, MD who is an expert in the artistry of facial rejuvenation and longevity medicine. All aesthetic injection treatments are performed by the doctor.

Patientʻs experience excellent results that come from the years of experience performing non-invasive aesthetic treatments as well as surgical and invasive medical procedures. All therapy services are performed in a Maui-based treatment center in Kihei, near the town of Wailea.

Platelet Rich Plasma to Treat Hair Loss

Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss

Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Richard Buckley Puts a Cosmetic Spin on Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy’s Potential for Hair Loss and Skin Rejuvenation

Allure recently featured Platelet Rich Plasma’s (PRP’s) intriguing and growing role as a therapy for men and women with hair loss. But Dr. Richard Buckley, Medical Director at MilfordMD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, in Milford, Penn., says PRP’s rejuvenating power doesn’t stop there. “Platelet-rich plasma therapy has been one of my go-to treatments for not only hair loss but also facial rejuvenation,”

Dr. Buckley says. “In many cases, we’ll use it as an adjuvant treatment, for example, along with other therapies that build hair volume in thinning hair, or with Botox and fillers for facial rejuvenation.”

PRP therapy, which is used in many areas of medicine, including in orthopedics to treat musculoskeletal conditions and for wound healing, has in recent years made its mark in cosmetic medicine.

The therapy involves drawing a patient’s blood into a special tube which gets centrifuged and then the platelet-rich plasma is extracted. The platelet-rich plasma can then be reinjected into the patient to address a variety of health and cosmetic concerns.

Platelets are, in fact, now being classified as cells because of the wide variety of functions they perform directing repair of damage they find. “By using a patient’s own growth factors, we can stimulate hair thickness and fullness, as well as trigger production of new skin cells and collagen formation to address facial wrinkling, volume loss and more.” Dr. Buckley says.

For the Face and Body

A popular use for PRP is in combination with autologous fat transfer, which involves taking fat from an area of the body where it isn’t wanted and injecting it as an autologous filler, where it is wanted. Dr. Buckley combines the fat, which contains stem cells, with the patient’s platelet-rich plasma to re-volumize and rejuvenate not only the face and neck, but also the décolletage, breasts, hands, buttocks and to treat scars.

He says the combination results in a longer-lasting effect than with fat, alone. “And patients get the added benefit of collagen rebuilding over time,” he says.

Platelet Rich Plasma

For Hair Loss

There are many options for hair loss, from topical and oral treatments to PRP and hair restoration with follicular unit transplantation. “Hair thinning and hair loss are huge concerns for not only men, but also women,” Dr. Buckley says. “PRP is an excellent option for people who have hair loss, and can be used alone or in combination with other therapies. PRP can help the body in restoring and growing hair for just about anyone.”

Once the patient’s blood has been processed for injection, Dr. Buckley injects it meticulously into the scalp, in areas where the hair is thinning.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is done once a month for three or four months, with maintenance treatments a few times a year, he says. “There’s minimal discomfort and no downtime, other than patients should avoid blow drying or processing their hair in the days following treatment,” Dr. Buckley says. “Results happen over time.

People who have had PRP treatment on their scalps usually first notice that they’re losing less hair in their combs or in the shower. PRP continues to work by stimulating growth factors and stem cells that help to regrow and strengthen hair.”
