Lisbeth Roy, D.O., of Doctors Studio in Boca Raton, FL, Shines a Spotlight on Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment for Hair Loss
Could ‘blood injections’ be the cure for thinning hair? According to a study of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), hair density was significantly increased.
The data suggests that PRP injections have a positive therapeutic effect on male and female pattern hair loss. PRP is used to stimulate the follicles of the scalp.
“Blood contains platelets which are small white blood cells that contain growth factors and biologic proteins that participate in normal healing.
Platelets can be concentrated and used to help facilitate tissue regeneration,“ said Dr. Lisbeth Roy, founder of Doctors Studio and Studio PRP. “The PRP scalp procedure, also known as Studio Scalp, begins with a simple blood draw.
Then, using a proprietary technique, platelets are separated and concentrated by spinning in a centrifuge.
The solution of concentrated platelets, loaded with growth factors, are injected into the scalp to promote localized cell growth, resulting in hair growth.”
PRP and Laser Cap Therapy were featured recently on the Dr. Oz program.
During this segment, Dr. Oz explains solutions for thinning hair and discusses the latest breakthroughs in technology to treat balding:
“I’ve spent thousands of dollars to help improve my thinning hair and finally it’s the PRP treatment that produced noticeable results,” said a female patient of Dr. Roy’s in Boca Raton. “The procedure is safe and natural so I’m thrilled it’s non surgical and affordable.”
Dr. Roy has been using PRP for several years in her Boca Raton, FL practice and has seen great success with both male and female patients––and the benefits go far beyond hair growth.
PRP is making a dramatic impact in urology and gynecology with procedures like the O-Shot™ and Priapus Shot™ for sexual dysfunction; in dermatology and aesthetics with the Vampire Facial™ and Vampire Facelift™; in orthopedics and sports medicine for joint pain, as well as cardiology for heart patients. New areas of treatments and wound healing are being discovered steadily.
“PRP has been used in medicine for decades,” said Dr. Roy. “Fortunately athletes like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant, and celebrities like Kim Kardashian have shined a spotlight on it.
And now with Dr. Oz educating the population about new applications, it’s significantly changing the landscape of regenerative and preventive medicine.”
“The combination of the study and the visibility Dr. Oz is creating is extremely valuable in helping to educate the public,” said Dr. Roy. “For those of us in the forefront of this technology who have been using PRP successfully, it’s an exciting time to see this validation from Dr. Oz; I’m looking forward to continuing to see more study outcomes on the many benefits and regenerative nature of PRP.”
