Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cell Alopecia Treatment Market

United States (Platelet Rich Plasma) and Stem Cell Alopecia Treatment Market 2013-2018 and 2018-2025

Rise In Disease Awareness, Increased Treatment Rate, & Growing Adoption Of Novel Treatment Therapies

The “U.S. PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and Stem Cell Alopecia Treatment Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report By Treatment, By End User (Dermatology Clinics, Hospitals), And Segment Forecasts, 2018 – 2025” report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com’s offering.

The U.S. PRP and stem cell alopecia treatment market size is expected to reach USD 183.3 million by 2025 at a 5.1% CAGR during the forecast period.

Factors contributing to the growth of this market include a rise in disease awareness, increased treatment rate, and growing adoption of novel treatment therapies providing a positive patient outcome. Moreover, lower incidences of negative side effects due to this therapy are anticipated to fuel demand for platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy.

Adoption of PRP and stem cell therapy for alopecia is expected to increase owing to a rise in the number of patients preferring novel therapies over conventional therapies. In addition to this, shorter treatment duration, faster hair regrowth, and improved patient outcome are expected to drive demand for these therapies over the forecast period.

By treatment type, PRP procedures accounted for the largest share of 58.1% in 2017 in terms of procedural volume.

However, owing to lower prices of PRP procedures, stem cell therapy procedures accounted for the dominant revenue share in 2017, valued at USD 70.1 million.

By end use, the dermatology clinics segment accounted for 85.0% of the total market revenue in 2017, owing to its lower therapy cost as compared to hospitals.

The competitive landscape includes clinics such as Orange County Hair Restoration Center, Hair Sciences Center of Colorado, Evolution Hair Loss Institute, Savola Aesthetic Dermatology Center, PLC, NovaGenix, Virginia Surgical Center, and Hair Transplant Institute of Miami.

Further key findings from the report suggest:

  • PRP procedures dominated the market in terms of volume in 2017, owing to its safety, effectiveness, and minimal chances of failure
  • Stem cell therapy accounted for the dominant revenue share in 2017 owing to higher prices of PRP procedures as compared to stem cell therapy. The segment was valued at USD 70.1 million in 2017

Platelet Rich Plasma to Treat Hair Loss

Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss

Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Richard Buckley Puts a Cosmetic Spin on Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy’s Potential for Hair Loss and Skin Rejuvenation

Allure recently featured Platelet Rich Plasma’s (PRP’s) intriguing and growing role as a therapy for men and women with hair loss. But Dr. Richard Buckley, Medical Director at MilfordMD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center, in Milford, Penn., says PRP’s rejuvenating power doesn’t stop there. “Platelet-rich plasma therapy has been one of my go-to treatments for not only hair loss but also facial rejuvenation,”

Dr. Buckley says. “In many cases, we’ll use it as an adjuvant treatment, for example, along with other therapies that build hair volume in thinning hair, or with Botox and fillers for facial rejuvenation.”

PRP therapy, which is used in many areas of medicine, including in orthopedics to treat musculoskeletal conditions and for wound healing, has in recent years made its mark in cosmetic medicine.

The therapy involves drawing a patient’s blood into a special tube which gets centrifuged and then the platelet-rich plasma is extracted. The platelet-rich plasma can then be reinjected into the patient to address a variety of health and cosmetic concerns.

Platelets are, in fact, now being classified as cells because of the wide variety of functions they perform directing repair of damage they find. “By using a patient’s own growth factors, we can stimulate hair thickness and fullness, as well as trigger production of new skin cells and collagen formation to address facial wrinkling, volume loss and more.” Dr. Buckley says.

For the Face and Body

A popular use for PRP is in combination with autologous fat transfer, which involves taking fat from an area of the body where it isn’t wanted and injecting it as an autologous filler, where it is wanted. Dr. Buckley combines the fat, which contains stem cells, with the patient’s platelet-rich plasma to re-volumize and rejuvenate not only the face and neck, but also the décolletage, breasts, hands, buttocks and to treat scars.

He says the combination results in a longer-lasting effect than with fat, alone. “And patients get the added benefit of collagen rebuilding over time,” he says.

For Hair Loss

There are many options for hair loss, from topical and oral treatments to PRP and hair restoration with follicular unit transplantation. “Hair thinning and hair loss are huge concerns for not only men, but also women,” Dr. Buckley says. “PRP is an excellent option for people who have hair loss, and can be used alone or in combination with other therapies. PRP can help the body in restoring and growing hair for just about anyone.”

Once the patient’s blood has been processed for injection, Dr. Buckley injects it meticulously into the scalp, in areas where the hair is thinning.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes and is done once a month for three or four months, with maintenance treatments a few times a year, he says. “There’s minimal discomfort and no downtime, other than patients should avoid blow drying or processing their hair in the days following treatment,” Dr. Buckley says. “Results happen over time.

People who have had PRP treatment on their scalps usually first notice that they’re losing less hair in their combs or in the shower. PRP continues to work by stimulating growth factors and stem cells that help to regrow and strengthen hair.”
