Hair Loss Awareness Month

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month

Hair loss expert Dr. Philip Bruder of Schweiger Dermatology Group discusses causes and treatments for the over 30 million women suffering from hair loss

August is Hair Loss Awareness month and an ideal time to focus on female hair loss. N.Y.C. hair loss expert, Philip Bruder M.D., says: “Most women do not realize how common it is for them to have thinning hair. 50% of women have genetic hair loss by age 50. It is not uncommon for women to show early signs of genetic hair loss at a young age, even as teenagers. Although female patterned (genetic) hair loss is the most common type of hair loss, there are many other causes.” Dr. Bruder says medication, hormonal irregularities, nutritional deficiencies, underlying medical disease, autoimmunity, and follicular scarring can also contribute to hair loss:

Hairstyles:

Although hair grooming practices do not accelerate genetic hair loss, they can contribute to hair breakage and, in the case of hairstyles that pull the hair, permanent scarring of the hair follicle and loss of hair density can occur.

Stress and Other Triggers:

Telogen effluvium (increased hair shedding) can be triggered by acute stressors, such as giving birth, stopping birth control pills, high fevers, psychological stress, surgery, general anesthesia, weight loss, as well as chronic conditions, including hormonal irregularities, nutritional deficiencies, medical disease and medication.

Autoimmunity:

Autoimmune hair loss, alopecia areata, typically presents as circular and oval patches of hair loss on the scalp, but also may cause hair loss of the eyebrows, eyelashes, and body hair. Alopecia areata can be mild with only a few patches or moderate to severe with loss of all scalp hair and, at times, loss of eyebrow, eyelash and body hair.

For those suffering from hair loss, Dr. Bruder says there are many available treatments. Treatment depends on the type of hair loss that a person has and may include Rogaine, topical or intralesional steroids, oral medications, PRP therapy, finasteride, spironolactone, and birth control pills.

Minimally Invasive Procedure Providing Tremendous Results for Alopecia Patients

September is National Alopecia Awareness Month! Topical and Internal Treatments Proving Successful in Hair Restoration.

Alopecia involves hair loss in one or more round spots on the scalp and typically begins as small bald patches. It presents itself in a number of different patterns primarily at the top or in the crown but can also show up along the front hairline, sides of the head and even the back of the head.

Hair loss can be gradual or sudden depending on the type.  Individuals who develop alopecia have been resigned to come to terms with the hair loss as the condition has been considered virtually irreversible.

Minimally invasive and topical procedures are providing new hope for hair growth in patients with this disease which often leaves individuals desperately trying to hide the condition by wearing wigs or shaving the head completely.

Kendra Timmons, Certified Trichologist and Owner of The Hair Recovery Center explains how treating alopecia patients with a multi-therapeutic approach that addresses the disease both internally and externally is proving successful for both men and women with this condition. “By analyzing the scalp as well as the body’s systems and finding the imbalances that may be causing an individual’s hair loss, we are able to treat the whole person,”

Timmons explains. “We use an FDA approved, non-invasive bio communication tool that assesses the body’s energy supplies and provides insight into their personal wellness, and from there we are able to determine what supplemental support the client may need.

Once that is identified, topical treatments such as detoxing clay, ozone therapy, laser therapy, and dermarolling, all of which are minimally invasive, are used to stimulate the hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. These procedures are literally restoring the confidence and peace of mind of individuals who suffer from alopecia.”

Sessions typically take forty-five minutes, and a course of treatment lasts an average of three months to one year.

Timmons has been a licensed hair care professional for twenty-three years and began her study of Trichology in 2003. Trichology is the branch of medical and cosmetic study and practice concerned with the hair and scalp. She currently provides services to clients throughout the U.S. including California, Maryland, Arkansas and Texas and in Dubai.

September is National Alopecia Areata Awareness Month

September is National Alopecia Areata Awareness Month

Hair Club® Supports Awareness through Hair Loss Education

Alopecia areata affects nearly 7 million people across the United States. The condition occurs when a person’s immune system mistakenly attacks their hair follicles, causing patchy hair loss on the scalp, face and other areas of the body.

The National Alopecia Areata Foundation sponsors a month-long awareness campaign every September in local communities nationwide to bring attention and increase understanding of the disease.

To help build awareness, Hair Club, the leading provider of total hair solutions in North America, is sharing information about alopecia areata and customized hair restoration options available for individuals living with the condition.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata can occur in multiple family members, suggesting genetics play a part in the condition. This autoimmune disease affects men and women of all ages and ethnicities, and often first appears in childhood. Several forms of this type of alopecia exist, including:

Alopecia areata, which results in round patches of hair loss
Alopecia totalis, characterized by the complete loss of scalp hair
Alopecia universalis, which results in the total loss of hair on the scalp and body
Ophiasis, which occurs in a wave pattern around the edge of the scalp

Hair regrowth for people with alopecia areata is dependent on the type and severity of their condition. For some, regrowth can be unpredictable, while for others, hair can regrow within a few months. The condition may also be cyclical, meaning hair can fall out repeatedly over time.

“At Hair Club, we want people with alopecia areata to know there is hope,” said Lee Zoppa, Hair Club’s Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. “We offer proven solutions that can help anyone who wants to restore their hair.”

Hair Loss Solutions

For men and women with alopecia areata or any other type of hair loss, Hair Club offers a variety of hair restoration solutions. The company provides free, private consultations where people can learn more about hair loss, the condition of their scalp and which option will give them the results they want.

Because hair loss is unique to everyone who experiences it, Hair Club provides a comprehensive suite of solutions customized to meet an individual’s needs. Hair loss solutions include:

Non-Surgical Options

Xtrands+®

Xtrands+ is Hair Club’s most popular solution. It enables men to dramatically transform their appearance in as little as 4 weeks and women in as little as 6 weeks.

Xtrands®

Xtrands is a volumizing solution that offers men and women with thinning hair instant fullness.

Hair Regrowth Options

EXT Extreme Hair Therapy®

EXT® is a complete hair and scalp health program that includes Minoxidil, the only FDA-approved, clinically studied topical treatment for hair loss.

Laser Hair Therapy

Low-level laser (light) therapy (LLLT) helps regrow hair and slow further loss. This cutting-edge technology offered by Hair Club is clinically studied, FDA-cleared± and easy to use at home.

“I encourage anyone living with alopecia areata—or anyone suffering from hair loss—to come in for a free consultation with one of our trained experts,” said Zoppa. “You’ll learn about your options and how we can help you live your best life with more hair.”

±Laser Devices are indicated to treat androgenetic alopecia and promote hair growth in males who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV and Norwood Hamilton Classifications of IIa to V and in females who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV and Ludwig (Savin) I-4, II-1, II-2 classifications, or frontal patterns of hair loss. The Laser Devices offered by Hair Club are FDA-cleared for men and women and cleared for distribution by Health Canada.

Hair Club® Supports Awareness through Hair Loss Education

Hair loss impacts millions of men and women every day. Nearly 85% of men will have significantly thinning hair by age 50, and about 40% of women will experience hair loss or thinning by age 40.

As part of National Hair Loss Awareness Month in August, Hair Club, the leading provider of total hair solutions in North America, is sharing information about the common causes of hair loss and the options available to help men and women suffering from hair loss.

Hair Loss Causes

It’s normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day as part of the hair growth cycle. But bald patches or thinning may be an indicator of a hair loss condition. The most common cause of hair loss is genetics. However, other reasons for hair loss can include:

Aging
Hormonal changes
Intense stress
Autoimmune diseases
Medical treatments
Prescription drugs
Poor diet
Harsh styling practices

While only a medical professional can determine the exact cause of hair loss, the most common reason men and women lose their hair is genetics. Hereditary hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, can come from either or both the mother’s side and father’s side of the family.

Male pattern baldness is genetic and follows a predictable and visible pattern of loss that begins with thinning at the temples and/or crown. As the condition progresses, the two areas of hair loss meet, leaving only a band of hair remaining around the back and sides of the head. Female hair loss doesn’t always follow a pattern and can be more diffuse in nature. Women may also experience a widening of their part or patches of thinning, especially near the temples.

“Hair loss is different for every person, and people often have more than one contributing factor,” said Lee Zoppa, Hair Club’s Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. “This can lead to a cumulative effect of more severe hair loss that occurs at a faster rate.”

Hair Loss Solutions

“It’s important to know you don’t have to live with hair loss,” said Zoppa. “You have options.” Hair Club® has been at the forefront of hair restoration for more than 40 years. Today, the company offers a comprehensive suite of proven solutions that can help anyone, at any age, with any level of hair loss.

Hair Club’s multiple hair loss solutions include non-surgical and hair regrowth options. Some of the more popular ones are:

Non-Surgical Options

Xtrands+®

Xtrands+ offers men and women with moderate to advanced hair loss the opportunity to dramatically transform their appearance. Thousands of people across North America have taken advantage of Xtrands+ to restore their hair. Faster and much less expensive than surgery, men can get their hair back in as little as four weeks and women in as little as six weeks.

Xtrands®

Xtrands is a volumizing hair loss solution that adds fullness and density to thinning hair without surgery. This solution is ideal for people in the early stages of hair loss with either diffuse thinning, pronounced thinning around the part or thinning at the crown.

Hair Regrowth Options

EXT Extreme Hair Therapy®

EXT® helps men and women in the earlier stages of hair loss with the only FDA-approved, clinically proven topical ingredient that can regrow hair and slow further loss, Minoxidil. The solution combines professional services at a Hair Club center with at-home products that are easy to use. The EXT program improves the look and feel of a client’s hair, while Minoxidil helps regrow it.

Laser Hair Therapy

Low-Level Laser (Light) Therapy (LLLT) is a cutting-edge technology in the fight against hair loss. Designed for at-home use, laser hair therapy is quick and convenient. But even more importantly, this technology is proven to help regrow hair.

Laser hair therapy uses medical-grade lasers to deliver safe, low-level laser light to the scalp. As this light is absorbed, it helps to increase microcirculation delivering a richer blood supply and nutrients to the hair follicle.

The laser devices offered by Hair Club have been clinically studied for hair restoration, and they’re FDA-cleared†.

Each solution offered at Hair Club is customized to fit an individual’s needs, taste, lifestyle, and hair restoration goals. “Our solutions are completely personalized, and we work with clients one-on-one to achieve the look they want,” said Zoppa. “We’re here to help people learn more about hair loss and show them how to restore their hair so they can transform their lives.”

†Laser Devices are indicated to treat androgenetic alopecia and promote hair growth in males who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV and Norwood Hamilton Classifications of IIa to V and in females who have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV and Ludwig (Savin) I-4, II-1, II-2 classifications, or frontal patterns of hair loss. August Is National Hair Loss Awareness Month, Learn The Essentials On Prevention & Treatment

Top expert and new treatment pioneer, Dr. Alan J. Bauman, discusses new, effective treatments for the estimated 80 million Americans facing hair loss as part of National Hair Loss Awareness Month campaign.

August is all about The Beach, BBQs and…Hair Loss? Since an estimated 80 million Americans, (50M men/ 30M women), experience some level of hair loss, National Hair Loss Awareness Month effectively shifts the focus on prevention and effective treatments to reduce these startling (and treatable) statistics.

Internationally Recognized Hair Loss Expert Dr. Alan J. Bauman aka the “Boca Hair Doc,” will be performing LIVE in-person hair loss Q+A’s and evaluations including HairCheck® measurements, a non-invasive method to scientifically measure hair loss and hair growth, a vital step in maintaining, enhancing and restoring each individuals living and growing tresses.

This event will take place at the Hairatin® Kiosk at the Sawgrass Mills Mall on Saturday, Aug. 18th (which is being dubbed Super Sat-HAIR-day or #SatHAIRday) from 12-4pm.

“Hair” you will find the proper protocols to hold onto the hair you have and learn about treatments to consider if/when you start to lose your strands. Awareness and taking early action are essential in improving the odds that your hair will be with you in the best condition possible for as long as possible.

PREVENTION

1) A common mistake with detecting hair loss is to rely on the “mirror test” before taking action. This type of visual assessment puts you at a disadvantage because by the time hair loss is visible half of your hair in that area may be already gone. Research shows that most people who have undergone treatment for hair loss wish they started sooner.

2) HairCheck®: New measurement and evaluation tools abound. Hair Restoration Physicians MDs can help accurately diagnose, measure and monitor your condition.

3) A family history of hair loss, over-styling and use of harsh chemicals, illness, stress, certain medications, smoking and poor diet can all impact hair health and influence hair loss. Experts advise eliminating as many hair loss risk factors as possible.

4) Don’t wait to take action to reduce your risk of further hair loss. There are non-invasive therapies that can be implemented and, if need be, more intensive yet minimally invasive procedures that can help thinning, balding and overall hair density on the scalp.

5) Don’t be duped by potions, lotions, elixirs and “miracle hair-growth cures.” Hair restoration is a clinically recognized medical subspecialty so working with someone who is properly credentialed, experienced and has positive reviews in the specialty of hair loss treatment is the smartest route to pursue.

“It is vital to know hair loss is no longer inevitable, it’s OPTIONAL,” reassures Dr. Bauman. “Patients are always relieved to learn that hair loss IS a TREATABLE condition.”

TREATMENT

A few of the cutting-edge treatment options to consider and ask your Board-Certified Hair Restoration Physician about:

SmartGraft®, Minimally-Invasive, Permanent, No-Linear-Scar Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant
ARTAS Robotic-Assisted FUE Hair Transplant
No-Linear-Scar NeoGraft FUE Hair Transplant
3D Printed Hair Systems
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) “Vampire” Hair Regrowth Therapy
Compounded Formula 82M Minoxidil – a more powerful, non-greasy Rogaine alternative
Compounded Formula 82F Topical Finasteride + Minoxidil – designed to reduce the risk of side-effects from oral finasteride (Propecia).
Low Level Laser Therapy – FDA-approved drug-free hair regrowth with LaserCap 224, CapillusRX 312 devices for at-home use.
Nutritionals & Nutraceuticals: SuperBiotin, Nutrafol & ViviscalPRO
Genetic Testing
Scalp Makeovers – for itchy, dry, flaking or oily scalp
Assembling the right information, acting upon it at the right time and working with a certified hair restoration physician when it comes to hair maintenance, restoration and treatment can make all the difference.
