Beard to Scalp Hair Transplant is Transforming the Future of Hair Restoration
Hair transplant surgeon Parsa Mohebi, MD has been a key part in shaping modern hair restoration.
The inventor of several methods of modern hair restoration, Dr. Mohebi was the first chairman of the FUE Research Committee of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery.
In addition, he has developed an exciting new hair restoration technique: Beard-to-Scalp Hair Transplantation (BSHT), a new method of hair restoration specifically designed to help patients with advanced stages of hair loss.
Patients can now achieve great results from hair transplants using a new, unexpected source of donor hair—their own facial hair.
Once the donor grafts are harvested from the beard, the hair is transplanted to the balding recipient areas of the patient’s scalp. As a result, patients with advanced hair loss (classes five and above) can now achieve reasonable coverage on the balding areas of their head, even if their scalp donor areas are not sufficient.
Dr. Mohebi was thrilled to bring this revolutionary method of hair restoration to his practice. “It’s very exciting to report that the beard-to-scalp hair transplant method has become successful thanks to the improvement of FUE techniques and our understanding of mechanisms involved in FUE hair restoration in recent years,” he said.
“The worst part of my job has always been informing a patient that I could not help him because he didn’t have adequate donor hair follicles to create a full coverage of hair. I’ve practiced on patients who have given up hope of finding the right hair restoration options.
Today, with the face-to-scalp hair transplant, we can help these individuals receive comparable results to the patients with generous scalp donor hair.”
Beard hair has fewer follicles per graft; however, it is much thicker, producing increased volume after hair transplantation and creating the appearance of denser hair.
Dr. Mohebi has reported harvesting as much as 3,000 hair grafts from the beard area, taking hair only from the lower chin and neck area. Those patients who would like to remove all or most of their facial hair can expect to receive up to 6,000 grafts within a few hair transplant sessions.
