German-made hair care series formulated for older women
Hair loss may affect many men, but it can happen to women too, especially those going through menopause.
German cosmeceutical company Dr Wolff recently introduced Plantur 39 Phyto-Caffeine, a range of haircare products specially created for women aged 40 years and older.
According to the company, the new series which contains an active phyto-caffeine complex will help protect hair roots from “premature exhaustion” caused by menopause, as well as provide hair with sufficient energy to grow.
During the launch at A Cut Above Academy in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Dr Wolff Research and Regulatory Affairs head Dr Adolf Klenk said, “Utilising a unique Galenic formulation (the principles of preparing and compounding medicines in order to optimise their absorption), the caffeine complex as an active ingredient is able to travel all the way to the hair shaft to activate hair roots and prevent further hair loss.
“Plantur 39 contains various additional active ingredients such as soy and white tea.
“These are known as phyto-flavones, active botanical ingredients that have positive effects in women from the age of 40 and above.
“Phyto-flavones help to strengthen the resistance of the hair and enhance energy supply. In doing so, phyto-flavones support hair growth and regeneration.”
He added that the quantity of caffeine penetrating the body through the hair shaft was safe even for people who are sensitive to caffeine.
“Many women experience thinning hair, and their hair falls prematurely due to hormonal imbalance during and after menopause.
“During a recent three-month trial with magazine readers in the United Kingdom, 87% of the 284 women aged between 40 and 64 who had used the Plantur 39 shampoo every time they washed their hair, claimed the condition of their hair had improved.
“Additionally, more than half of them (57%) noticed a reduction in hair loss and/or hair thinning after using Plantur 39, while 70% reported less hair loss in the shower and on their hairbrush,” shared Dr Klenk.
Also present at the launch was Dr Ruban’s Skin and Hair Clinic director and hair restoration dermatologist Dr Ruban Nathan.
“Menopausal hair loss, also known as androgenic alopecia, is caused by the drastic decrease of ‘hair-friendly’ estrogens in the hair roots.
“These hormones help to protect hair roots against testosterone, which is the main culprit for hair loss.
“Usually, when women hit the age of 40 and above, the emergence of menopause will decrease estrogen, which results in hormonal imbalance where testosterone take over the place of estrogen in the hair roots, causing hair to fall prematurely,” he said.
“In Malaysia, many women and men still believe in the myth that they will lose less hair if they shampoo their hair less often, which is not true at all.
“With such humid weather in Malaysia, washing your hair only a few times a week will induce oil excretion in the scalp and encourage the growth of bacteria which contributes to eventual hair loss,” added Dr Ruban.
During the launch, a short clip on the Plantur 39 haircare series and some styling tips were shown to the crowd.
