Superior salon to host cut-a-thon for Children With Hair Loss

A Superior salon is offering free haircuts to people who donate 8 inches or more of hair during a one-day cut-a-thon Sept. 9. Ten independent stylists with Serenity Spa and Salon Featuring Posh Affair Boutique will donate their time from 3-7 p.m. to cut the hair, which will be sent to the nonprofit Children With Hair Loss.

Gray hair is accepted. Non-chemically treated hair is preferred, but any hair in good condition will be accepted.

Serenity owner Jolene Timmers said Superior High School student Sara Benson inspired her to team up with with Children With Hair Loss. Benson came in with 10 inches of hair to donate. Timmers did some research on where to send the gift and picked the nonprofit, which provides human hair replacements at no cost to children and young adults facing medically related hair loss.

“They have been doing remarkable work,” Timmers said.

When she reached out to Children With Hair Loss, they sent her 41 kits to fill. Serenity stylists want to make a start filling them Sept. 9 during their “Cutting for a Cause” event at 1705 Tower Ave.

In addition to complimentary haircuts, donors will receive a goodie bag and free refreshments. A backdrop will be set up for photo booth opportunities.

The salon will continue to partner with Children With Hair Loss going forward and donations will continue to be taken.

“We have people who want to donate hair off and on during the year,” Timmer said.

She encouraged any people considering donating to be part of “Cutting for a Cause.”

Walk-ins are welcome. Visit for more information on the nonprofit.
